CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) -- Antonio Russell led four players in
double-digit scoring with 26 points to lift Western Carolina past
The Citadel 83-57 Sunday in a Southern Conference opener for both
Russell shot 5-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-4 from
3-point range and 12-of-14 from the free-throw line. Eric Wilson
scored 15 points, Corey Muirhead had 14, and Kyle Greathouse posted
12 for the Catamounts (7-6, 1-0).
Demetrius Nelson led The Citadel with 11 points.
The Catamounts made 13 3-pointers, one shy of a school record
set earlier this season.
The Citadel (7-4, 0-1) kept the game close through opening nine
minutes of the first half, trailing just 14-12. Western Carolina
then went on an 8-0 run at the 11:04 mark for a 10-point lead.
The Catamounts expanded the deficit to 41-21 at the break and
went on to control the second half.
