RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) -- Sophomore center Andrew Strait scored a career-high 31 points as Montana defeated UC Riverside 77-67 in a nonconference game Monday for the Grizzlies' ninth straight victory.

Strait hit 14 of 21 from the floor and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line as Montana consistently broke Riverside's press and scored 50 points in the paint. Kevin Criswell added 14 points for the Grizzlies and Virgil Matthews had nine.

Montana (9-1) shot 58.5 percent as a team, including 68 percent in the second half.

The Grizzlies also outrebounded the Highlanders 31-23.

Riverside (0-7) remained winless despite posting its best shooting percentage (45 percent) of any game this season. The Highlanders got 16 points from Rickey Porter, 15 from Houston Power and 10 from Steve Williams.

The Highlanders trailed by only two at halftime and were still down by only three with 8:09 to play after Larry Cunningham's baseline drive and 3-point play.

But the Highlanders could generate little inside presence, and Montana pulled away in the final minutes.
