GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico (AP) -- Dru Joyce made five 3-pointers and
had 16 points to lead Akron to an 83-72 victory over Mississippi
State at the San Juan Shootout on Tuesday night.
Akron (5-2) jumped out to an early lead and led 40-28 at
halftime.Mississippi State (8-3) trailed by as many as 18 with less than
15 minutes left. The Bulldogs closed to 69-62 after Walter Sharpe
hit two free throws with 3:52 remaining.Joyce countered with a 3-pointer that stretched Akron's lead to
72-62.Nick Dials led Akron with 16 points and three steals, and Bubba
Walther added 15 points.Jamall Edmondson scored 17 points for Mississippi State.Akron plays undefeated Clemson (10-0) in the tournament title
game on Wednesday. Mississippi State will face Holy Cross (5-5) in
the third-place game.
