PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Dominick Mejia led four players in double
figures with 14 points and hit four 3-pointers to lead Drexel to a
56-51 win over Ball State on Tuesday night.
The Dragons (7-5) won their fourth straight game.
Bashir Mason sealed the win with a steal, a drive down the court
and a layup to put the Dragons ahead 54-48 with 27 seconds left.
Mason scored 13 points for Drexel. Frank Elegar and Randy
Hampton each added 10 points for the Dragons.
Ball State (4-3) only trailed 45-43 after a dunk by Charles Bass
with 7:08 remaining in the game. But the Cardinals failed to score
over the next 4:14.
The Cardinals shot only 34 percent from the field. After leading
by as many as seven in the first half, Ball State went scoreless
for a stretch of 6:19.
Drexel took advantage as they scored 13 straight points. Hampton
capped off the run with a 3-pointer to give the Dragons a 25-19
lead with 4:18 remaining. Drexel never trailed from that point on.
Skip Mills hit a 3-pointer with 2:25 left in the first half to
tie the game at 27-27, but Drexel scored the final four points of
the half to lead 31-27 at halftime.
Mills led the Cardinals with a game-high 18 points. Maurice
Acker added 12 points for Ball State.
