HONOLULU (AP) -- Kerwin Forges scored 14 points to lead
Northwestern State to a 72-61 victory over Oregon State in the
first round of the Rainbow Classic Wednesday night.
Forges came off the bench for Northwestern State (7-2) to shoot
5-for-5 from the field, including 2-for-2 from 3-point range.Luke Rogers and Jermaine Wallace added 11 points each for the
Demons. Northwestern State's leading scorer Clifton Lee, averaging
16.1 points on the season, had just eight points on 3-of-9
shooting.Oregon State (4-4) pulled to within three, 54-51, with 9:15
remaining. But Northwestern State responded with a 12-4 run to go
up 66-55 with five minutes to go and would lead by as many as 13
down the stretch.Chris Stephens led Oregon State with 17 points. Nick DeWitz
added 13 points and Sasa Cuic 10 for the Beavers.Northwestern State led 33-26 at halftime.Oregon State led for much of the first half, but Demon Keenan
Jones' backcourt steal and dunk with 3:09 remaining in the first
capped a 12-2 run to give Northwestern State a seven-point lead,
28-21.Oregon State committed 13 turnovers in the first half, while
Northwestern State did not shoot a free throw before the half.
