Samford 61, Murray State 50

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Travis Peterson scored 18 points and
Randall Gulina added 17 to lead Samford to a 61-50 victory over
Murray State on Wednesday night.

Three Samford (5-4, 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference) players scored
in double digits and Peterson's career-high 18 points was on
7-of-11 shooting.

"This was a complete effort from our team on both ends of the
court and I thought that this was our best game of the season,"
Samford head coach Jimmy Tillette said. "Earlier, we would put
together a good half, but then struggled for awhile, but now I
think that we are more determined to do what we need to do to win

Murray State (5-3, 3-1) withstood a 10-2 start from the Bulldogs
and eventually took a 27-19 lead with 3:35 left in the first half.

A Samford rally sparked by Ryan Woolsey, Jerry Smith and Gulina
tied the score at 27-27.

Woolsey gave the Bulldogs the lead for good, closing out the
half with a 3-pointer and a pair of lay-ups to give Samford a 34-29

Pearson Griffith scored 19 points to lead the Racers and was the
only Murray State player to reach double figures. Shawn Witherspoon
led the team with seven rebounds.
