Alabama State 78, South Alabama 75

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Akeim Claborn scored 24 points to lead
Alabama State to a 78-75 victory over South Alabama on Thursday
night.

The Hornets' (2-8) win snapped South Alabama's (8-2) seven-game
winning streak.

"I thought down the stretch their two big guys made some plays
and really hurt us," Jaguar head coach John Pelphrey said. "We
had our chances, but we just didn't make enough plays."

The Jaguars opened the game with an 11-3 start, making five of
their first six shots, including three lay-ups by junior Jason
McGriff, but a 7-0 Alabama State run cut the deficit to 11-10.

The Hornets took their first lead on a Richard Lott layup for a
14-13 score, but South Alabama quickly regained the lead,
stretching it to 12 points with 5:47 left in the half.

Alabama State fought back to tie the game at 34 after a 12-0 run
to end the half.

Mario Jointer led the Jaguars with 21 points and had two
assists. Chey Christie and Jason McGriff each scored 11 points to
round out double-figure scoring for South Alabama.
