PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Pooh Jeter and Darren Cooper combined for
46 points to lead Portland to an 80-72 win over Oregon on Thursday.
The result gave the Pilots victories over Oregon, Oregon State
and Portland State -- the first time they have swept their in-state
rivals in 49 years.Ben Sullivan added 12 points for the Pilots (5-7), who overcame
a slow start to take a 42-35 halftime lead and never trailed again.Aaron Brooks led the Ducks (6-5) with 13 points and Malik
Hairston and Adam Zahn added 11 points each.The Ducks led 16-8, but the Pilots dominated the rest of the
first half, shooting 56 percent from the field and playing defense
with much more intensity.Jeter, who had a game-high 25 points, hit a 3-pointer to give
the Pilots their biggest lead of the night, 58-46 with 11 minutes
left.Oregon's Chamberlain Oguchi then hit a pair of 3-pointers as
part of an 8-0 run that trimmed the lead to 58-54.The Pilots, however, thwarted the rally with five straight
points, highlighted by a three-point play from Cooper.The Ducks never got closer than four points the rest of the way,
the last time when Oguchi hit his third 3-pointer of the night with
21 seconds left.Portland hit 7-of-8 free throws in the last 30 seconds to seal
the win. For the game, the Pilots hit 28-of-39 from the line.
Cooper made 15-of-16.The Pilots enjoyed a 26-10 edge in points off turnovers, and
held the Ducks to 43 percent shooting.
