CINCINNATI (AP) -- Brian Thornton scored a career-high 27 points
and had seven rebounds to lead Xavier to a 78-54 win over Troy on
Thornton connected on 11 of 13 shots as the Musketeers (6-2)
placed four players in double figures. Justin Doellman had 18
points and 10 rebounds and Stanley Burrell finished with 17 points
and six assists.
Josh Duncan added 10 points for Xavier, which bounced back from
a 61-59 loss at Creighton on Saturday.
Thornton had a three-point play with 9:32 left to spark a 13-3
run that gave the Musketeers a 72-50 lead. The senior had seven
points during the spurt.
Bobby Dixon had 18 points and nine assists for Troy (4-5), which
shot 8-for-30 from 3-point range. The Trojans came into the contest
averaging 12.6 3-pointers per game, tops in the country.
Xavier closed out the first half with an 8-0 run to take a 49-31
lead at halftime. Thornton and Doellman had 14 points apiece at the
