STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Travis Parker had 17 points and tied a
career high with 10 rebounds for Penn State in its 74-59 win over
Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday.
Geary Claxton added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Nittany
Lions (7-3), who shot a season-high 22-of-26 (84.6 percent) from
the free-throw line and outrebounded IPFW 39-18. IPFW (2-10) made
five of its seven free-throw attempts.
Penn State overcame a Mastodon defense that turned 19 turnovers
into 22 points and limited the Nittany Lions to 4-of-15 shooting
from 3-point range. Penn State had hit 20-of-34 3-pointers in its
previous two games.
Despite going without a field goal for a span of nearly seven
minutes, the Mastodons cut a 14-point second-half deficit to two on
a DeWitt Scott 3-pointer from the corner that made it 49-47 with
9:45 to play. That capped a run in which the Mastodons got two
3-pointers from Scott and five of Tyler Best's team-high 15.
The double-double was Parker's second this season and fourth of
his career. David Jackson scored 12 points and Cornley added 11 for
his third straight game in double figures.
