OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Weber State's Coric Riggs scored 18 points to
lead Weber to a 69-62 victory over in-state rival Utah Valley State
David Heck scored a career-high 30 points for UVSC (6-7),
hitting 12-of-19, including 6-for-9 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Heck scored the Wolverines' first 10 points, and UVSC led 10-6
early in the first half. Weber State (6-6) answered with an 11-0
spurt, highlighted by Coric Riggs hitting three straight jumpers.
The Wildcats closed out the first half by shooting 48 percent,
and led 31-23 at halftime.
Utah Valley cut Weber's lead to 45-44 with 10:35 remaining on
Ben DeVoe's layup. However, WSU extended its lead to 63-50 over the
next five minutes. The spurt was highlighted by a pair of alley-oop
dunks by Riggs and another by David Patten.
Despite a 10-2 run by UVSC in the game's final four minutes, the
Wolverines ran out of time and their comeback fell short.
Patten scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds for WSU.
Terrell Stovall added 10 points and seven assists for the Wildcats.
DeVoe had 12 points for UVSC.
The Wildcats avenged a 68-49 loss to the Wolverines Dec. 6 in
Utah Valley coach Dick Hunsaker, who played at Weber State from
1974-1977, is now 2-2 coaching against his alma mater.
