MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -- Lance Harris scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half and Kansas State held off pesky Belmont 66-62 on Thursday night at Bramlage Coliseum.

The Wildcats (8-2) jumped out to an 11-0 lead but never led by more than 13 points, as the Bruins of the Atlantic Sun Conference continually silenced Kansas State every time it went on a run.

Trailing 54-44 with 7:20 to go, Belmont's Andy Wicke and Justin Hare combined for eight points in a span off less than 2 minutes to slice the lead to two.

With 49.5 seconds left in the game, Boomer Herndon's basket inside cut Kansas State's lead to 61-60.

But Dramane Diarra made a pair of free throws and Kansas State clamped down with a full-court press on the inbounds play, forcing Hare to turn the ball over with 10 seconds to go without getting off a shot.

Akeem Wright and Cartier Martin added three free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory.

David Hoskins had 14 points and Martin added 13 for the Wildcats, who were outrebounded for the second straight game while shooting 47 percent from the field.

Wicke finished with 12 points for Belmont (3-6), which shot only 4-of-18 from beyond the 3-point arc. Josh Goodwin, who had been averaging over 15 points per game, was held to only 2 points on 1-of-9 shooting.

The Bruins, who had been averaging more than 80 points per game, made only five of their first 20 shots from the field as Kansas State jumped out to an early lead that eventually grew to 21-8 with 9:22 left in the first half.

But then the Wildcats, who had made eight of their first 13 field goals, suddenly went cold. They managed only 9 points over the final 9½ minutes, at one point prompting coach Jim Wooldridge to leap from the bench and ask, "What are you guys doing?"

Belmont closed to within 27-20 on Goodwin's floater in the lane, but Wright's jumper with a little over a minute to go gave Kansas State a 30-20 halftime lead.
