ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Courtney Sims scored 22 points and
Lester Abram added 19 to lead four Michigan players in double
figures Saturday as the Wolverines held off Chicago State 86-69 in
the nonconference finale for both teams.

Daniel Horton scored 17 points and Dion Harris added 12 for the
Wolverines (10-1), who equaled their best start since the 1989-90
season. Michigan opens its Big Ten season Tuesday at Indiana.

Royce Parran scored 21 points and David Holston added 15 for the
Cougars (1-11), who have played all of their games on the road.

The Wolverines opened the second half by outscoring the Cougars
11-0 to take a 57-26 lead. Chicago State came back with a 20-6 run
to close the gap to 63-46 with 11:31 remaining.

Michigan responded with five straight points to push its lead to
22 points. Chicago State again rallied, cutting it to 76-61 with
4:26 to play. However, that was as close as the Cougars could get.

After Chicago State took its only lead of the game, 5-4,
Michigan went on a 15-2 run over the next 4:59, forcing four Cougar
turnovers and limiting them to just two free throws. The Wolverines
went on to build a 46-26 halftime advantage.
