Stetson 52, North Florida 40

DELAND, Fla. (AP) -- Senior guard Anthony Register scored 15
points as Stetson snapped the nation's longest losing streak in
NCAA Division I with a 52-40 victory over North Florida Monday.

Stetson had lost its last 15 games, including the first 10 of
the 2005-06 season, before beating North Florida.

The Ospreys fell to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the Atlantic Sun
Conference. The Hatters are now 1-2 in A-Sun play.

Register scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half as Stetson
led 27-12 at halftime. The Hatters established a new modern-day
team record for fewest points allowed in a half. The old record of
13 points was reached three times, the last against North Carolina
State on Nov. 26, 2000.

Senior guard E.J. Gordon added 14 points and seven rebounds for
Stetson, while senior forward Karl Hollingsworth chipped in 10
points and eight rebounds.

Junior forward Rashad Williams scored 12 points and grabbed 11
rebounds to lead North Florida.

The Ospreys played without leading scorer and rebounder Alain
Laroche. The senior forward missed his second straight game because
of an injured right wrist.

North Florida trailed 27-12 at the half but cut the margin to
five points, 33-28, with a 16-5 run. However, Gordon sandwiched
short jumpers around a baseline jumper by Register to get the
Hatters' lead to 39-28 with 9:37 left.
