DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Drake coach Tom Davis has been preaching
balanced scoring all season.
His players must have finally got the message.
Al Stewart scored 14 points and was among five Bulldogs in
double figures as Drake beat Indiana State 76-59 Wednesday night.
The Sycamores lost their sixth straight.
Drake (10-7, 3-3 Missouri Valley Conference) overcame a sluggish
start and shot 53 percent from the field, including 64 percent
after halftime. The Bulldogs sealed the win midway through the
second half with a 13-2 run that gave it a 68-51 lead.
The Sycamores(8-6, 1-5) started the game on an 8-0 run but Drake
finished the first half with 10 straight points for a 36-31
Stewart started the run with a free throw and Jonathan Cox added
a 3-pointer to give Drake the lead with 1:02 left in the half. Cox,
who got his first start, scored eight.
Russell Trudeau led Indiana State with a career-high 17 points.
