CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) -- Creighton survived a late scoring
drought and a last-second 3-point attempt from Northern Iowa to win
55-52 Wednesday night.
Creighton snapped the Panthers' 13-game home win streak, despite
shooting 36 percent and not scoring a field goal in the final five
minutes.
Ben Jacobson had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds
but missed a 3-point attempt from the top of the key.
Both teams struggled offensively and Northern Iowa failed to
have a player score double-digits. Northern Iowa's last lead was
13-12 with about 13 minutes left in the first half but it never
trailed by more than seven.
The Panthers (14-3, 4-2 Missouri Valley Conference) trailed by
six points with 5:33 left and rallied to tie it after
John Little
hit a 3 with 1:56 left.
Creighton (10-4, 4-2) took a three-point lead after
Nick Porter
hit two free-throws with two seconds left, setting up Jacobson's
last-second attempt.
Porter and
Josh Dotzler led Creighton with 10 points each.
Grant Stout scored nine points to lead Northern Iowa, which shot
35 percent from the field -- its second worst percentage of the
year.
The Panthers played most of the second half without starting
shooting guard
Erik Crawford, who left with a foot injury and did
not return. The severity of his injury is not known.
