HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- Jason Forte scored 20 points to lead Southern Mississippi to a 67-55 win over Tulane in the Conference USA opener for both teams Wednesday night.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Southern Miss (7-9, 1-0) and gives the Golden Eagles a winning record in league play for the first time in three seasons.

Tulane (4-9, 0-1) has lost three of its last four games.

Courtney Beasley had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Southern Miss, and David Cornwell had 12 points with 11 rebounds.

Jarekus Singleton added 10 points for the Golden Eagles.

David Gomez led Tulane with 13 points and Matt Wheaton and Ryan Williams each added 12.

Southern Miss trailed only once, 5-4 less than three minutes into the game.

The Golden Eagles led by as many as 16 in the first half. The closest Tulane got after halftime was 56-50 with 4 minutes left.
