CINCINNATI (AP) -- Freshman Devan Downey scored 21 points to help
Cincinnati snap a three-game losing streak with a 71-66 win over
Rutgers on Sunday.
Eric Hicks scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his 20th
career double-double for the Bearcats (14-5, 3-2 Big East). Seniors
James White and Chadd Moore also reached double figures for
Cincinnati, which hadn't won since senior Armein Kirkland suffered
a season-ending knee injury.
White scored 14, including a 3-pointer from the right corner
with 4:31 left that gave the Bearcats the lead for good. Moore
added a season-high 11, including two free throws in the last
The win was Cincinnati's first over an established Big East team
since the Bearcats switched from Conference USA this season. They
previously had lost to Connecticut and Syracuse while beating
former Conference USA opponents DePaul and Marquette.
Rutgers senior Quincy Douby, who was leading the Big East with
an average of 23.5 points per game, scored 19 to lead four Rutgers
players in double figures. Jimmie Inglis scored a career-high 16,
Marquis Webb added 11 and Anthony Farmer had 10. Rutgers (12-6,
2-3) has lost three of its last four games.
Downey scored 11 points in the second half, including the final
five of a 14-3 Cincinnati run that left the Bearcats with their
biggest lead, 50-38, with 12:04 left in the game.
The Scarlet Knights fought back to grab a 59-58 lead on Douby's
driving layup with 4:42 left, setting up White's go-ahead
