CINCINNATI (AP) -- Ian Vouyoukas scored 13 points and Saint Louis
held Xavier without a field goal for the final 12:35 to get a 59-54
win Sunday night.
Anthony Drejaj had 11 points as the Billikens (9-8, 3-2 Atlantic
10) ended Xavier's seven-game winning streak.
The Musketeers (12-3, 3-1) shot 32 percent and missed their last
11 shots. Stanley Burrell had a game-high 16 points despite missing
all seven of his shots in the second half.
Xavier led 30-26 at halftime and stretched that to 37-29 on a
layup by Justin Cage two minutes into the second. But Saint Louis
tied it at 47 and took the lead for good when Vouyoukas dunked and
was fouled, converting the three-point play.
Brian Thornton scored 12 points and Josh Duncan had 10 for the
Musketeers, who were coming off an emotional 73-71 overtime win
over cross-town rival Cincinnati on Thursday and looked flat down
Xavier and Saint Louis had not met since the Midwestern
Collegiate Conference title game March 9, 1991 in Dayton. The teams
were MCC rivals from 1982 until 1991, when Saint Louis left to join
the Great Midwest Conference.
Xavier leads the series 21-9.
