Cincinnati 73, South Florida 60

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Cedric McGowan and Jihad Muhammed each scored
18 points to help the Cincinnati Bearcats keep South Florida
winless in the Big East with a 73-60 victory Tuesday night.

McGowan, a junior, set a career high in points and recorded his
second career double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds. He scored
11 points in the second half and Muhammed had 13 as Cincinnati
(15-7, 4-4) overcame a seven-point deficit.

Eric Hicks also had his seventh double-double in his last 10
games for Cincinnati with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Devan Downey
also reached double figures with 12 points.

Solomon Jones led five Bulls in double figures with 14 points.
McHugh Mattis added 13 for USF. James Holmes, the Bulls' leading
scorer, finished with 12, six below his average.

Cincinnati had lost five of its previous six games after a
10-game winning streak.

South Florida (6-14, 0-7) has lost nine straight games. The
Bulls are looking for their first Big East win after switching from
Conference USA.

Muhammed's 3-pointer with 11:09 left in the game snapped a
48-all tie and gave Cincinnati the lead for good. That sparked a
14-3 Bearcats run during which he scored eight points and McGowan
added four.

James White, Cincinnati's leading scorer, was limited to six
points by a sprained right ankle he suffered early in the game. He
returned after getting the ankle retaped but played with a slight
limp.

Cincinnati dominated inside, enjoying a 43-32 advantage in
rebounds and outscoring the Bulls 40-22 in the paint and 21-8 on
second-chance points. The Bearcats also beat USF 14-2 on fast-break
points.
