BOSTON(AP) -- Shawn James had 13 points, 11 rebounds and eight
blocked shots to lead Northeastern past William & Mary 84-69 in the
teams' first-ever contest Thursday night.
Northeastern (12-8, 8-4 Colonial Athletic Association) led by as
many as 17 en route to its third win in four games.
Jose Juan Barea added 17 points and nine assists for the
Huskies.
After
Nathan Mann's fastbreak layup pulled William & Mary within
45-41 early in the second half, Northeastern scored 12 consecutive
points to put the game out of reach.
Bobby Kelly's layup with 13:07 remaining capped the run and made
the score 57-41.
Adrian Martinez scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and Aaron
Davis and
Bennet Davis each added 11 points for Northeastern.
The Huskies took a quick 5-0 on an
Aaron Davis 3-pointer and a
Barea pull-up jumper and never trailed.
After Bennet Davis' layup gave Northeastern a 24-13 lead midway
through the first half, William & Mary went on an 13-4 run, pulling
to within 28-26 on an Hawley Smith layup with 3:14 remaining in the
half. But the Huskies answered with an 11-2 run to take a 39-28
halftime lead.
William & Mary leading scorer
Calvin Baker recorded just 10
points on 4-of-12 shooting. He was held scoreless in the first
half.
Corey Cofield scored a game-high 19 points and Mann added 13
for the Tribe (6-14, 1-10), who have lost 10 of 11.
