SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Mohamed Abukar scored 18 points and Marcus Slaughter added 16 points and 15 rebounds as San Diego State won its eighth straight game Wednesday night with a 61-51 victory over Air Force.

With the win, San Diego State (16-6, 9-1) stretched its Mountain West Conference lead to 1½ games over UNLV.

The eight-game streak is the Aztecs' longest in 22 years, and their longest conference winning streak since joining Division I in 1970.

Air Force (18-5, 6-4) had its biggest lead 35-31 early in the second half when San Diego State went on a 15-0 run to take control.

Richie Williams scored the first 6 points of the run that was punctuated by baskets by Slaughter and Abukar and gave the Aztecs a 46-35 lead. Williams finished with 11 points and six assists.

Abukar went 8-for-12 from the field.

The Falcons closed to 52-47 with 2:16 remaining but four free throws by Brandon Heath and three by Williams eased San Diego State home.

The Aztecs were 21-for-27 from the free-throw line while Air Force was six-of-seven.

Dan Nwaelele and Antoine Hood had 12 points apiece for the Falcons.
