RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Stanley Burrell scored 11 of his 17 points
during a 17-4 Xavier run midway through the second half, leading
the Musketeers to a 63-51 win over Richmond on Wednesday night.
The Spiders took their last lead of the game, 37-36, on Peter
Thomas' layup with 14:19 remaining. A jumper by Justin Cage gave
the Musketeers a 38-37 lead with 14:07 left to go and ignited the
17-4 run, which ended on Burrell's layup to put Xavier ahead 53-41.
The Spiders could get no closer than nine the rest of the way.
After Richmond (11-11, 4-5 Atlantic 10 Conference) scored the
first seven points of the game, Xavier had a 19-9 run to take a
19-16 lead with 8:05 remaining in the first half. Richmond came
back to take a 28-27 halftime lead. The first half had seven ties
and 10 lead changes.
Xavier (14-6, 5-4) was led by Brian Thornton's 20 points. Cage
The Musketeers hit 14 of 23 field goal attempts in the second
half while holding Richmond to 6 of 19. They outrebounded the
Spiders by nine in the second half.
