YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) -- Nick Dials scored 16 points and Rob Preston added 14 to lead five Akron players in double figures Saturday as the Zips rallied to a 77-72 victory over Eastern Michigan.

Cedrick Middleton scored 12 points and Darryl Peterson added 11 for the Zips (18-5, 11-2 Mid-American), who moved one-half game ahead of Kent State atop the MAC East Division.

Carlos Medlock led the Eagles (5-16, 2-11) with a career-high 24 points, and John Bowler added 14.

Trailing 33-32 at halftime, Eastern Michigan scored 12 of the first 18 points of the second half to take a 44-39 lead. The Eagles stayed in front until Nate Linhart scored seven straight points to give the Zips a 58-55 lead with 8:46 remaining. Linhart finished the game with 10 points.

The Eagles twice climbed within one point and had several opportunities to tie or take the lead. However, Eastern Michigan was plagued by poor free throw shooting in the second half, hitting only four of 13 attempts, and was never able to regain the lead.

Akron took advantage of cold shooting by Eastern Michigan at the start of the game to jump out to a 19-9 lead. The Eagles, who connected on only two of their first 10 field goal attempts, kept it close by hitting their free throws and seven of their last nine shots in the half.

Akron's win allowed the Zips to complete a season sweep of all MAC West Division teams.
