UC Irvine 63, UC Riverside 37

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) -- Darren Fells had 11 points and eight
rebounds to lead UC Irvine to a 63-37 win over UC Riverside
Wednesday night.

The victory gives the Anteaters (14-11, 10-3) a guaranteed
top-two finish in the Big West and an automatic berth into the
semifinals of the conference tournament in March. Irvine has pulled
within percentage points of Big West leader Pacific as the
conference schedule winds down.

last place.

The 37-point total was the lowest UC Irvine has allowed a
Division I school since a 57-37 win at St. Mary's on January 3,
2001.

With the game tied 12-12 with 8:14 to play in the first half,
Irvine went on a 23-0 run that featured four 3-pointers. The
Anteaters went into halftime with a 35-12 lead.

UC Riverside shot 18.5 percent in the first half, and never
threatened in the second half.

Steve Williams led the Highlanders with 10 points.
