ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Kevin Lisch scored a career-high 22 points as
Saint Louis beat Temple 56-51 Saturday night.
Anthony Drejaj added 15 points for the Billikens (14-10, 8-4
Atlantic 10), who have won five of their last six games. The
Billikens committed a season-high 23 turnovers and nearly let a
12-point second-half lead slip away.
The Billikens led by nine at 52-43 with 2:14 left after Lisch
made one of two free throws. But Temple (14-10, 7-6) scored the
next eight points, including a three-point play by Mark Tyndale
with 1:10 left that cut the Saint Louis lead to 52-51.
Tommie Liddell scored off a rebound with 33 seconds left to give
Saint Louis a 54-51 lead. Temple then had several chances to tie in
the final 30 seconds before the Billikens gained control of the
ball and Lisch put the game away with a breakaway basket.
Tyndale led all scorers with 23 points and Mardy Collins added
14 for the Owls, who dropped their fourth straight away from home.
Saint Louis made 6-of-9 3-point shots in the first half to build
a 28-23 halftime lead. Meanwhile, Temple made just 1-of-7 from
The Billikens led by eight at 26-18 after Lisch hit a 3-pointer
with 3:50 remaining in the half. But Dionte Christmas countered
with a 3-pointer of his own, and Wayne Marshall scored inside with
1:00 remaining to make it 26-23.
Ian Vouyoukas, who leads the Billikens in scoring with a 13.6
average, made two free throws with 32.8 seconds left for his only
two points of the half. Vouyoukas did not have a shot in the first
half and finished with four points.
