NEW YORK (AP) -- Justin Armstrong made a 12-foot baseline jumper
with 10.2 seconds left to lift Columbia to a 65-64 victory Saturday
over Princeton and give the Lions just their second win in the last
26 games against the Tigers.
With Princeton (8-14, 6-3 Ivy league) leading 64-63,
Noah Savage
missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and the Lions (10-13, 3-7) fed
the ball to Armstrong, who finished with 15 points.
After the Lions took the lead, the Tigers had a final chance but
Savage was short with a 14-footer from the right side.
Princeton had won five of its previous six games overall and
nine straight against Columbia.
Scott Greenman had a game-high 17 points, all in the second
half, for the Tigers while
Luke Owings scored 14 and
Justin Conway
added 13.
John Baumann also scored 15 points for the Lions and Brett
Loscalzo finished with 12.
Princeton lost for only the second time in 34 games when the
Tigers scored more than 60 points.
Columbia led 32-22 at halftime and expanded the lead to 40-29
before Greenman led the Tigers on a 20-8 run.
Savage hit Princeton's first 3-point shot of the game, extending
the Tigers streak to 544 games with at least one 3. Princeton,
Vanderbilt and UNLV are the only schools to have made at least one
3-point shot since the rule was introduced in 1986.
In halftime ceremonies, Columbia inducted the first 31 members
into its new athletic hall of fame. Among the inductees present for
the ceremony were NFL defensive lineman Marcellus Wiley, Olympic
gold medal swimmer Christina Teuscher, former NBA All-Star Jim
McMillian and two-time NCAA fencing champion Katy Bilodeaux.
