STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) -- Johnny Gray scored a game-high 19 points
as Pacific won outright its third consecutive Big West Conference
championship by dominating Cal Poly 75-53 on Saturday.
Christian Maraker recorded his 15th double-double of the season
with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers (22-7, 12-2), who
also got 14 points and eight rebounds from Michael White and 12
points from Mike Webb.
Pacific won its fourth game in a row and 11th in 12 games.
The Tigers will be the No. 1 seed in the Big West Tournament,
which begins Wednesday at the Anaheim Convention Center. Pacific
will be aiming for its third consecutive trip to the NCAA
Tournament, where the Tigers reached the round of 32 each of the
past two years.
Chaz Thomas led Cal Poly (9-18, 7-7) with 16 points and Derek
Stockalper scored 11 for the Mustangs.
The Tigers twice stretched their lead to 28 points midway
through the second half, and coach Bob Thomason began emptying his
bench with five minutes to play as nine of Pacific's 11 players
Pacific came out hot and remained that way throughout the first
half. With Gray and Webb hitting from the perimeter, the Tigers
pushed their lead to 21 points before settling for a 42-23 halftime
Gray and Webb combined to make 10 of 13 shots -- including 5 of 8
from 3-point range -- as Pacific made 55 percent of its field-goal
attempts in the first half. Gray had 15 points at the break and
Webb had 10.
Pacific began the second half with a 6-0 run and its lead never
fell below 19 points the rest of the way.
