Hunter powers Old Dominion to NIT Final Four

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- Isaiah Hunter scored a career-high 29 points and Old Dominion beat Hofstra 61-51 on Wednesday night to snap the Pride's 21-game home winning streak and advance to the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament.

Hofstra, which had the second-longest streak in the nation, lost at home for the first time Jan. 19, 2005, against the Monarchs.

Old Dominion will face Michigan at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. The Wolverines beat Miami 71-65 on Wednesday night in Ann Arbor.

Arnaud Dahi had 10 points and was the only other double-figure scorer for the Monarchs (24-9), who lost twice to the Pride in the Colonial Athletic Association this season.

Antoine Agudio scored 13 points, only four in the second half, for Hofstra (26-7), which led 30-24 at halftime. Loren Stokes had 12 points and Carlos Rivera added 10. Adrian Uter grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Hunter's jumper gave Old Dominion the lead for good at 43-41 with 9:03 remaining.

After Rivera's layup pulled Hofstra to 48-47 with 4:12 left, Valdas Vasylius converted a three-point play 28 seconds later to push ODU's lead to four.

Stokes made two free throws with 2:13 remaining to pull the Pride to 53-51, but the Monarchs scored the final seven points -- five by Hunter -- at the foul line to seal the victory.

There were four ties and eight lead changes in the first half, as ODU shot only 9-for-30 (30 percent) while Hofstra was 12-for-29 (41 percent).

Jonathan Adams hit a free throw to give ODU a 21-18 lead with 4:55 left in the first half, before Hofstra closed the period with a 12-3 run. Agudio and Carlos Rivera each had five points during the run.

Uter's rebound and layup opened the second half to give Hofstra its largest lead at 32-24.

Hunter then accounted for all of ODU's points during a 10-3 run, including back-to-back pairs of 3-pointers, that pulled them to 35-34 with 15:06 left.

Agudio's layup pushed Hofstra's lead back to three 14 seconds later, before Dahi's three-point play tied the score at 37 with 13:12 remaining.
