CHICAGO, Ill. (AP) -- Blake Schilb and J.R. Blount scored 21 points apiece to lead Loyola to a 96-74 win Friday night over John Carroll.
Schilb was 8-for-13 from the field, including 3-for-6 from three-point range. The senior also grabbed six rebounds.Loyola (3-1) sprinted to a 48-33 halftime advantage and led by as many as 30 points in the second half.John Carroll (0-1) won the battle under the basket, outscoring Loyola 38-34 in the paint, but was victimized by turnovers. The Ramblers converted 21 John Carroll turnovers into 29 points. The Blue Streaks scored just seven points off 11 Loyola turnovers.Loyola shot 47.5 percent from the field for game and went to the free-throw line 39 times, converting 29 for a 74.4 percent clip.Brandon Mimes led John Carroll with 20 points and nine rebounds. Pete Moran chipped in 13 points and three assists.
