STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Phillip Williams scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Winthrop to a 74-63 win over Mississippi State on Saturday.
The Eagles win snapped a six-game home winning streak for the Bulldogs (2-1).
The Eagles (2-2) led 35-28 at halftime.
Winthrop shot 87 percent from the free throw line, scoring 26 points off Bulldog penalties.
The Eagles forced 16 Bulldog turnovers, but could only get eight points off the effort.
Williams and Craig Bradshaw combined for five blocks in the game and Bradshaw rounded out the list of double-digit scorers for the Eagles with 10.
Winthrop out-rebounded the physical Bulldogs 28-25, the first time that's happened to the Bulldogs all season.
