ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia State overcame a 5-point halftime deficit with 61.5 percent shooting in the second half to beat Winston-Salem State 94-87 on Sunday as Rashad Chase led the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Chase had 18 points in the second half.
Georgia State (1-2) had three other players in double figures --
Trae Goldston 22 points,
Leonard Mendez 19
Lance Perique 17.
State is still without 6-9 starting center
Deven Dickerson (asthma) and 6-8 forward
Justin Billingslea (academics) as that pair will add even more strength later.
Winston-Salem's got a big boost off the bench from freshman
Darius Floyd, who scored 20 points, hitting three 3-pointers.
Brian Fisher led Winston-Salem (1-5) with 22 points, including five 3-point baskets.
Roy Peake added 13 points and
David Moore 10.
The Rams led 42-37 at halftime and Fisher's 3-pointer with 18:32 left in the game gave Winston-Salem a 47-37 lead before GSU began its comeback.
The Panthers, who later tailed 68-61 with 7:00 to play, finally took the lead for good at 71-70 with 4:26 remaining on a baseline jumper by Mendez.
