NEW YORK (AP) -- Ben Nwachukwu scored 25 points to lead Columbia
to a 90-63 victory over Long Island on Tuesday night, the Lions'
fourth straight victory.
Columbia (4-1) jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the game's first
five minutes, with Nwachukwu scoring seven points and K.J. Matsui
adding six. LIU drew within 19-13 on a steal and layup by Jaytornah
Wisseh with 13:06 remaining in the first half, but Brett Loscalzo
then hit a 3-pointer and the Lions gradually pulled away to a 54-35
The Blackbirds (1-2) never got closer than 11 in the second
James Williams led LIU with 16 points, raising his career total
to 1,288, moving him into 14th place on the school's career list.
