Landry helps Purdue upend Oklahoma in Maui

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) -- Carl Landry was 10-for-13 from the field and scored 30 points to lead Purdue to a 74-71 victory over Oklahoma on Tuesday in the consolation bracket of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

The Boilermakers (3-1) will play DePaul, which beat Chaminade 93-74, for fifth place Wednesday.

Purdue took the lead for good at 67-66 on a drive by Tarrance Crump with 3:56 to play. Landry scored on a low spin move to give the Boilermakers a three-point lead one minute later. After grabbing two big defensive rebounds on consecutive possessions he made two free throws with 29 seconds to go for a 71-66 lead.

Austin Johnson's three-point play with 9.8 seconds left -- he was fouled on a drive by Landry -- brought the Sooners (2-2) within 73-71. Marcus Green of Purdue made one of two free throws with 9.2 seconds to go and Oklahoma had a chance to force overtime, but freshman Keith Clark's 3-point attempt with 2 seconds bounced off the rim.

There were four lead changes and four times in the final eight minutes of the slow, physical game in which there were 45 fouls (25 against Oklahoma) and 37 turnovers (19 by Purdue).

Landry, an all-Big Ten second-team selection in 2005-06 after averaging 18.2 points, played just five games last season before tearing a ligament in his right knee. He had seven rebounds against Oklahoma and was 10-for-12 from the line.

Junior reserve guard David Godbold had a career-high 17 points for Oklahoma, while Johnson finished with 16. The Sooners lost 77-65 to No. 12 Memphis in the first round.

Gordon Watt had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Boilermakers, who lost 79-61 to No. 19 Georgia Tech in the opening round.

Purdue freshman guard Chris Kramer, who had started the first three games and averaged 6.3 points, did not play because of a sprained ligament in his right knee. The school said he is day to day.
