HOUSTON (AP) -- Robert McIver scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Houston Cougars to a 96-61 win over Grambling State on Wednesday night.

McIver shook off a slow start and hit six 3-pointers. He also had seven assists. Charlie Jones also had seven assists for the Cougars (3-0).

Robert Lee added 18 points and Oliver Lafayette scored 14 for the Cougars, who have scored at least 89 points in each of their games this season. Tafari Toney added 11 points and Jahmar Thorpe scored 10.

Andrew Prestley scored 14 points for Grambling State (1-1). Kendrick Baker added 13 and Andre Ratliff scored 10 points for the Tigers.

Martez Stevens came off the bench and recorded a team-high nine rebounds for Grambling State.

Houston led 47-30 at the half, but started the second half with a 24-2 run. McIver scored 13 points during the run. The Cougars led by as many as 44 points with 2:59 left in the game when coach Tom Penders answered the crowd's chants to put freshman Kyle Hatcher into the game for the first time.

Hatcher attempted three 3-pointers, but did not record a field goal.
