Southern Illinois 69, Minnesota 53

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) -- Matt Shaw scored 26 points and
grabbed seven rebounds Friday to lead Southern Illinois past
Minnesota 69-53 in the Old Spice Classic at Disney World.

Jamal Tatum had nine points, including three from the top of the
key as time expired in the first half to give Southern Illinois
(3-1) a 28-21 lead.

Shaw scored all but three points during a 13-3 run to open the
second half. His 11th successful free throw in a row gave the
Salukis their largest lead at 58-34 with 5:24 remaining.

Brandon Smith had 14 points and Lawrence Westbrook added nine
for Minnesota (2-3), which has dropped three consecutive games
since a 2-0 start.

Both teams struggled from the field throughout the game.
Southern Illinois connected on 38.5 percent of its shots. Minnesota
finished at 37 percent.

The Salukis outscored the Golden Gophers 26-16 off turnovers and
21-12 from the free-throw line.

Southern Illinois rebounded from its only loss, which came
Thursday in overtime to Arkansas in the first round of the
inaugural tournament.
