NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- David Gomez posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and rookie point guard Kevin Sims added 16 points and six assists as Tulane defeated Huston-Tillotson 80-54 on Tuesday.

The Green Wave (4-2) used a hot start to jump out to a 30-11 advantage 11 minutes into the game and 15-0 run midway through the second half to seal the win over Huston-Tillotson (0-6).

The 30-11 lead was Tulane's largest of the first half, but the Rams answered with an 11-3 run over the next six minutes to cut the Green Wave's advantage to 11.

Tulane then outscored Huston-Tillotson 11-5 the rest of the stanza to take a 44-27 lead at the half.

The Rams scored the first basket of the second half on a layup by Justin Phillips, and Huston-Tillotson eventually cut the lead to nine at 55-46 with 10:23 left.

From there, Gomez and Robinson Louisme keyed the Green Wave's big run to make it a 24-point game less then five minutes later. Louisme started the rally with a dunk and added a layup and a pair of free throws, while Gomez chipped in with a pair of layups.

The two teams essentially traded baskets the rest of the night as Tulane cruised to a 26-point victory.

Daniel Puckett scored 10 for the Green Wave, joining Gomez and Sims in double figures.

K.C. Asomugha, Doug Krause and Orlando Wilson tied for team-best scoring for Huston-Tillotson with 11 each, including three 3-pointers by Krause.
