NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- David Gomez posted a double-double with 17
points and 10 rebounds, and rookie point guard Kevin Sims added 16
points and six assists as Tulane defeated Huston-Tillotson 80-54 on
The Green Wave (4-2) used a hot start to jump out to a 30-11
advantage 11 minutes into the game and 15-0 run midway through the
second half to seal the win over Huston-Tillotson (0-6).
The 30-11 lead was Tulane's largest of the first half, but the
Rams answered with an 11-3 run over the next six minutes to cut the
Green Wave's advantage to 11.
Tulane then outscored Huston-Tillotson 11-5 the rest of the
stanza to take a 44-27 lead at the half.
The Rams scored the first basket of the second half on a layup
by Justin Phillips, and Huston-Tillotson eventually cut the lead to
nine at 55-46 with 10:23 left.
From there, Gomez and Robinson Louisme keyed the Green Wave's
big run to make it a 24-point game less then five minutes later.
Louisme started the rally with a dunk and added a layup and a pair
of free throws, while Gomez chipped in with a pair of layups.
The two teams essentially traded baskets the rest of the night
as Tulane cruised to a 26-point victory.
Daniel Puckett scored 10 for the Green Wave, joining Gomez and
Sims in double figures.
