ATLANTA (AP) -- Two Georgia natives led the way as Florida State scored the first 17 points and rolled to an 87-55 victory over Georgia State on Thursday night.

Guard Toney Douglas, an Auburn transfer from Jonesboro, Ga., led Florida State with 25 points while making 5 of 6 3-point attempts. Overall, Douglas was 10 for 14 from the field.

Forward Al Thornton, from Perry, Ga., celebrated his 23rd birthday with 20 points and nine rebounds.

Florida State (7-2) was never challenged after dominating the opening minutes, though Georgia State (3-5) pulled to within 16 points at 55-39 with 10 straight points early in the second half. The Seminoles pushed the lead to 30 points with 3:34 left.

Georgia State, which lost at Georgia Tech 103-74 on Nov. 16, will play a third Atlantic Coast Conference opponent when it visits Clemson on Dec. 31.

Thornton, a senior who scored 24 points in the Seminoles' win over defending national champion Florida on Sunday, and Douglas combined for 33 points in the first half.

Thornton had back-to-back jams, one following a steal, as Florida State scored the first 17 points. Georgia State's first basket, a 3-pointer by Trae Goldston, came about four minutes into the game.

A 3-pointer by Douglas gave Florida State a 38-11 lead, and two free throws by Thornton pushed the lead to 28 points at 46-18.

Rashad Chase and Leonard Mendez each had 10 points for Georgia State.

Jason Rich added 10 points for Florida State.

Florida State was the first Atlantic Coast Conference team to play at the Georgia State Sports Arena, though the Seminoles also made a 1976 visit as a member of the Metro Conference.
