DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Jonathan Cox scored a career-high 23 points off the bench as Drake beat Troy 102-90 Friday to advance to the championship game of the Drake Regency Classic.
Cox, whose previous career best was 15 points, sparked Drake with 9-of-10 shooting and hit 5-of-6 free throws as the Bulldogs avenged a loss to Troy last month.
Drake (4-2) survived 15 3-pointers by the Trojans, who have led the NCAA in 3-pointers the last three seasons. Boo Ramsey hit seven 3-pointers and scored 25 points for Troy (4-5). O'Darien Bassett scored 20 points.
The Bulldogs shot 71 percent and led at halftime 55-49.
Drake led 95-80 with 3:30 left, but seven straight points by Richard Chaney brought the Trojans to within eight with 2:14 left.
Drake sealed the win by making 7-of-8 free throws.
The Bulldogs will face Georgia Southern on Saturday night. The Eagles beat Northern Illinois 72-70 in the first game. Troy will play Northern Illinois in the consolation game.
