LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Brandon Worthy scored 16 points and added six
assists to lead Loyola Marymount to a 73-65 win on Saturday.
Despite UC Irvine (3-5) outrebounding the Lions 36-30, the
Anteaters hurt themselves badly with 16 turnovers and a lopsided
free-throw margin. Loyola Marymount (7-4) converted 19-of-24 from
the free-throw line while Irvine was just 8-of-13.
Matthew Knight chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds and Adoyah
Miller added 14 points for the Lions.
Irvine's Patrick Sanders led all scorers with 18 points. Darren
Fells added 16 points and 12 rebounds.
With the score tied 62-62 with 4:35 to play, Loyola Marymount
scored six straight points in the next 2½ minutes to take a 68-62
lead to take control of the game and hold off the Anteaters down
The biggest turning point was a five-minute span midway through
the second half when the Lions went on a 16-6 run to turn a 44-38
deficit into a 54-50 lead.
Loyola Marymount led 30-28 at halftime.
