JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) -- Will Whittington scored 21 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead Marist to an 89-70 victory over St. Peter's on Sunday.
James Smith added 18 points and Kaylen Gregory had 13 for the Red Foxes (8-1, 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), who were in command for most of the game and held several double-digit leads. Kevin Spann had 21 points for the Peacocks (3-7, 1-1), while Todd Sowell added 16 points and Raul Orta had 10.
Marist took control early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead, but St. Peter's fought back and trailed only 40-31 at halftime. Marist, though, put the game away with a 12-6 run that boosted their lead to 67-47 midway through the second half, and the Peacocks never got closer than 15 points.
St. Peter's won the battle of boards, outrebounding Marist 34-27 as Sowell pulled down a game-high 10.
