STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Geary Claxton had 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead Penn State to a 66-45 victory over Long Island on Wednesday night.
Trailing by a point at halftime, Penn State (7-3) opened the second half with a 13-2 run, stretching its lead to 41-31 and never looking back.
Danny Morrissey started in the Penn State backcourt in place of Ben Luber, who was on crutches after injuring his left ankle in practice on Tuesday. Morrissey finished with 10 points, and David Jackson, who moved to Luber's point guard position, scored 12.
Kellen Allen led the Blackbirds (4-6) with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting. James Williams scored eight points, failing to reach double figures for the first time this season. Aubin Scott added eight points and nine rebounds.
Long Island scored 18 of its 29 first-half points in the paint, while the Nittany Lions managed just two points inside and shot 30 percent.
