DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Will Franklin scored 26 points and Matt Salley added 17 to lead Bradley past Iowa State 76-66 Saturday in the Cyclone Capital Classic.
Jeremy Crouch chipped in with 11 points for Bradley (7-3), which won its second straight following a three-game skid.Iowa State -- which trailed by double digits for much of the game -- got within 66-61 on a 3-pointer by Wesley Johnson with 1:41 left. Bradley hit five straight free throws to lead 71-63, but Mike Taylor's quick 3 got the Cyclones within five.Taylor missed a 3-pointer on Iowa State's next possession, and the Braves iced the game at the line.The Cyclones cut Bradley's lead to six midway through the second half, but Bradley answered with three quick baskets. Crouch found Zach Andrews for an easy dunk, and Franklin followed with a steal, a lay-in and a transition layup to put the Braves ahead 66-55.Johnson scored 18 to lead Iowa State (7-4), which fell to 0-3 against teams from the Missouri Valley -- the league current Cyclones and former Northern Iowa coach Greg McDermott left after last season. Iowa State has also lost four of its last five, a troubling sign for a team that started 6-0 thanks to a weak schedule.Bradley built a 13-point lead by hitting 14 of its first 20 shots from inside the arc. Once the Braves established a strong inside presence, their perimeter shooters had plenty of time to find open looks. At one point, Franklin was so open that the crowd noticed it before Iowa State did and let out a collective gasp. The Cyclones raced out to the wing, but it was too late. Franklin's 3-pointer put Bradley up by 10.Taylor finished with 13 for Iowa State, and Rahshon Clark added 11.
