North Texas 86, W. Kentucky 85

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -- Keith Wooden's layup over Jeremy Evans with 5.1 seconds to play lifted North Texas to an 86-85 victory over Western Kentucky Tuesday night.

Wooden's shot gave the Mean Green (8-3, 1-1 Sun Belt Conference) a road victory over the Hilltoppers (8-4, 0-1) in a battle of the only two teams in the conference with winning records.

Western Kentucky led 85-84 on two free throws by guard Tyrone Brazelton with 18.5 seconds to play. After each team took a timeout with nine seconds remaining, North Texas in-bounded the ball and worked it to Wooden on the block for the decisive shot.

Western Kentucky had a final chance, but Brazelton's driving shot from 15 feet was no good.

North Texas led by 10 points with 11:56 to play and was in control for much of the game. Western Kentucky never led by more than three.
