    EL PASO, Texas (AP) -- Trey Johnson's game-winning 3-pointer with three seconds remaining put Jackson State past Texas-El Paso 100-97 in the first round of the Sun Bowl Tournament on Friday night.

    Johnson led the Tigers (6-6) with 49 points, including six 3-pointers and 13 free throws. Jeremy Caldwell came off the bench to add 13 points, and Julius Young scored 10.

    UTEP's Stefon Jackson hit two free throws with 18 seconds remaining to tie the game at 97, but Young passed to Johnson for the game winner.

    The Miners, who trailed 55-45 at the break, hit 52 percent of their field goals in the second half to close the gap.

    Jackson led UTEP (6-6) with 33 points, including three 3-pointers. He had 10 rebounds. Malik Alvin added 20 points and Marvin Kilgore had 19. Maurice Thomas led the team with 13 rebounds.
