SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) -- Bobby Brown hit five of Cal State Fullerton's 14 3-pointers Thursday as the Titans beat Cal Poly 99-91 in the Big West Conference opener for both teams.
Brown finished with a game-high 28 points along with eight assists as the Titans matched a school record for 3-pointers.
Cal State Fullerton, which has won five straight games, also hit 14 3-pointers against UC Irvine on Jan. 15, 2005.
The Titans had 28 attempts from long range Thursday and hit 17 of 20 free throws. Cal State Fullerton (10-2) had six players in double figures. Scott Cutley had 16 points and eight rebounds. Justin Burns had 13 points and nine rebounds.
Cal Poly senior forward Derek Stockalper led the Mustangs with a career-high 22 points. The Mustangs (5-6) had 10 blocked shots as a team, matching the school record set in 2002 against Cal State Fullerton. Titus Shelton's sixth block with 5:30 left broke a school record -- five blocks -- he had matched three times.
