W. Kentucky 73, Middle Tennessee 64

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- Orlando Mendez-Valdez came off the bench to score 18 points for Western Kentucky as the Hilltoppers held off Middle Tennessee 73-64 Thursday night.

Western Kentucky (10-4, 2-1 Sun Belt Conference) went up 31-24 at the half, led by starters Courtney Lee with 17 points and Tyrone Brazelton with 14.

Mendez-Valdez hit 4-of-5 from 3-point range and had a team-high five assists. Butch Jointer had a game-high eight rebounds.

Tim Blue led Middle Tennessee (4-8, 0-2), going 7-of-10 from the field for 15 points. Nigel Johnson added 14, including 9-of-10 from the line, and Desmond Yates had 13.

The Hilltoppers' bench outscored the Blue Raiders' 36-25, stretching their lead to 13 points with 10:44 left in the second.
