PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Keith Simmons scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half and Holy Cross held on to beat Delaware 49-47 at the La Salle Invitational on Saturday.
The Crusaders (8-6) failed to make a field goal in the final 5:14, but used 5-for-8 shooting from the line to close out Delaware.The Blue Hens also struggled with their shot in the second half, going 4-for-20 from the field. Delaware went the last 9:16 without a field goal, but stayed in contention by shooting 11-for-15 from the line.Herb Courtney led Delaware (2-10) with 24 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 8-for-12 from the field and had 18 points in the first half. Brian Johnson added 11 points.Alex Vander Baan hit a free throw with 8.9 seconds left to give Holy Cross a 49-47 lead. On Delaware's last possession, Johnson missed a runner in the lane as time expired.Courtney scored the final 12 points of the first half for Delaware, helping the Blue Hens to a 27-24 lead at the break.
