Wis.-Milwaukee 65, Detroit 64 OT

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Avery Smith scored 14 points and sank the winning shot, giving Wisconsin-Milwaukee a 65-64 overtime victory over Detroit in a Horizon League game Thursday night.

Paige Paulsen added 14 points, Kevin Massiah had 13 and Ricky Franklin 10 for the Panthers (4-12, 1-2), as they try to recover from their early season seven-game losing streak.

Detroit (4-10, 1-2), led by Brandon Cotton with 20 points, lost to Milwaukee for the sixth consecutive time, including 59-58 in the 2005 league championship game.

Smith's jumper with 1:38 left in overtime put the Panthers ahead for good at 65-64.

Cotton missed a shot on the other end, and when Milwaukee inbounded the ball after the miss, Franklin was fouled with 0.6 seconds left but missed both shots as time expired.

Detroit, which trailed 35-24 early in the second period, came back to take the lead several times.

The Titans were on top 61-58 after a pair of free throws by Brandon Bell.

But the Panthers' Ryan Thornton hit a baseline 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds left to tie the game at 61 and send it into overtime.

Milwaukee led 30-20 at the half .
