Mount St. Mary's outlasts Long Island in four overtimes

NEW YORK (AP) -- Will Holland's 3-pointer to open the fourth overtime -- his only field goal of the game -- gave Mount St. Mary's the lead for good in a 78-76 victory over Long Island University on Thursday night.

Holland, who missed his first three 3-point attempts, finished 1-for-7 from the field and had five points for the Mountaineers (3-10, 2-0 Northeast Conference), who snapped a four-game losing streak in the longest game in school history.

Chris Vann had 23 points for Mount St. Mary's, while Kelly Beidler had 15 Mychal Kearse added 14.

James Williams had 24 points for the Blackbirds (5-8, 1-1), while Aubin Scott added 14 points and Eugene Kotorobai had nine points and 16 rebounds. Scott played 57 minutes, the most of any player in the game.

Beidler and Jeremy Goode added one free throw each after Holland's 3 for a 77-72 lead. The Blackbirds were able to get within one, but Goode made one free throw with 22 seconds left for a 78-76 lead. Kotorobai missed a 3-point attempt, and Guyvans Richard of Mount Saint Mary's missed two free throws with 3.8 seconds left. Jaytornah Wisseh of LIU missed a 3 at the buzzer.

Kearse's layup with 35 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 59, and his two free throws with 59 seconds left in the first overtime made it 67-67.

Beidler made two free throws that tied the game at 72 with 36 seconds left in the third overtime.
